“If you have anything really valuable to contribute to the world it will come through the expression of your own personality, that single spark of divinity that sets you off and makes you different from every other living creature.”
— BRUCE BARTON
Hey! I want to take a moment to welcome you to Ember & Co. I think it’s safe to say that we all lead pretty busy lives these days, so it’s an honor to share this space with you. I hope you enjoy your time here.
We all carry a “spark”—that glowing ember that lives deep within our bones.
Perhaps you’ve buried it so deep within yourself that you can barely feel it’s warmth anymore. It’s that one passion that you can’t learn enough about, the talent you discovered that you love to cultivate, a vision for your business that motives you to keep pushing through another day—but day after day it gets starved of the oxygen it needs to thrive because your “daily grind” has a way of taking over. I get that. After all, we’ve all got bills to pay, tasks to complete, appointments to make, and needs that must be met. Why would we take precious time and energy away from our daily survival to fan that waning ember into flame?
We choose to fan that ember into flame because it brings light to our daily existence.
I think we all want more for our lives—more warmth, more excitement, more adventure. We often have such a beautiful vision for ourselves, but it is so easy to get paralyzed by fear of the journey. Doing something that we’ve never done before means taking steps we’ve never taken, embracing new challenges, and conquering the obstacles (often within ourselves) that threaten to snuff out our spark. That can be downright terrifying, I agree. But I also think it’s necessary. As a Colorado native who has climbed to the top of more than one 14,000ft mountain peak, I can tell you emphatically that every muscle-aching, wind-whipped, lung-burning, I-don’t-know-if-I’ll-ever-get-there, heavy step was 110% worth the experience of euphoria at the summit. And as much as I enjoyed complaining in between gasping breaths, there was more than one moment when the journey to the summit was pretty incredible in-and-of itself. Intimidating at times, yes, but incredible.
I’m here to advocate for your ember.
That is my spark, and part the two-fold meaning behind the “and company” of Ember & Co. You are in good company here; this path is one that you don’t have to walk alone. I am here to encourage you to take that first step, no matter how intimidating it may seem. I’ve been there and I know how crazy it feels sometimes to deviate from the path you’ve known. And if you’ve already taken that first step (yay, you!), I’m here to walk alongside you and cheer you on.
